Merry X-Mas

Beautiful rock beware!!!

Down Goodness

Happy Holidays. We enjoyed a wonderful morning together opening presents and eating Belgian waffles. Star's pager did go off and she had to head over the hospital to play doctor, but it was a fun morning. We are all so proud of her. She works so hard and loves every minute of it. So happy holidays from Japan and we hope that your day is full of wonderful happenings.

Daddy Day Care

Mt. Mitake

Star has gone back to work and has left Rod and I in charge. It will take some time to find a routine but with Rod's help I am sure it will happen. We took another trip to Base Camp and Rod is starting to really get into climbing. I do not have any photos due to all of us being very busy. We were either taking care of Gavin or climbing constantly for 6hrs. A good day. Start has a new project there, a very steep 11a. Tough. She will do fine.

We also finally went to check out Mt. Mitake. This day started with a tram ride to the top and an afternoon of hiking and exploring. This area is very beautiful and very nice this time of year. Gavin had a fantastic day. He really loves being outside. He is really a happy baby. I have been compiling some video of him and am about to start to edit another short video of his sweetness. Stay tuned for that.

This past Monday and Tuesday were filled with nasty weather and no climbing. we are planning on heading to pull on some plastic tomorrow at Carmba Climbing Gym. Enjoy these random photos from these last few days.

Happenings

In the past few days we have gone to Caramba climbing gym once, when on a urban trekking journey and found a park nearby great for birding. Caramba just had a hold reset and it looks great!!! Tomorrow we are heading to Mitake yama, Mt. Mitake, for some hiking. Then we are planning on heading down to pull on some stone for a couple of hours. Should be fun. On Sunday we are going to Base Camp for some steep route fun and Monday looks like another trip to Mizugaki yama to try some more high ball FAs. I have a few projects that I am super excited about but am anxious b/c I do not have my Big Pad from Organic yet. It is in the mail and everything should be OK. Though, some of these boulders are quite high at 25 to 30 ft. I do not want to fall from that high, but I do love being that high off the ground. We will see.

Picture time.

Steep Fantasy V4

Family photo

On Saturday we decided to take a hike around one of the areas that Jack and I are developing. This was a fantastic idea. The weather was spectacular. I did not think that it could be any better. Well, I was wrong. On Tuesday we set out again to this amazing area with endless boulders to have another go before temps dip to low. Well the weather was even better. Temps in the 10 to 15 C range in the sun is what I consider great this time of year. Very dry air adds to the amazing friction found here. Jack took me to another cook boulder that has a few other boulders around it.

All-in-all we had a great day. Rod went birding and Star was welcomed back to climbing outside with a near first ascent. She has a new project!!!! Can not wait for her to send. I sent a few fun problems. Steep Fantasy V4 was by far the most fun. A very gymnastic problem with good holds. Enjoy the pictures.

Getting Ready for Jumping Hook V5

It has been a week since my last post and as usual copious has happened. My mother's trip has come and gone, miss you mom. Now my father-in-law, Rod, is here to visit with his first grandchild for six weeks. It is sure nice to have Rod here. His first experience in Japan was on the commuter train from Tokyo to our city. Frightening at the least for him I'm sure. Jensen and I took morning to Shirotea. Shirotea is a very popular sport and bouldering area north of Okutama. This is also the area that I am helping replace many bad bolts. There are a ton of fun routes here. I also took my mom to Mitake and sent Jumping Hook V5 on the Sand Bar boulder.

I have already posted. but Jack and I made it up to the secret bouldering area and he sent his most recent project Bear Paw Man V11 FA. This problem was first thought to be unclimbable. Then after some intense looking, he found many small but key features that allowed him to add another classic to the Hut area. I was also in the market for a new project and searched for a new boulder. Which of course is not hard to do hear. And found a very tall and beautiful boulder with two obvious problems. After cleaning the right side, the boulder yielded a very fun and high V4+ that I sent first go called Trail Side Delight. No video but, we are planning on climbing a few other highballs nearby and will warm up in this one. I am planning on video then.

We made it to Base Camp climbing gym again. Star is really getting back into climbing. She is getting her lead mind back. Rod decided to have a go at it. Climbing up to 5.10a on TR. Which it Awesome!!! Such a trooper. Let's see how he feels tomorrow.

My little man Gavin is starting to talk. He has grown some much in the past few days. Tomorrow
we are baby sitting the Jensen's little man for a few hours. We will be tested for sure. Stay tuned on the result.
The next week looks to be more eventful with the start to bolting a new area here and looking for new projects at the Hut area. I am planning on many more photos but time to swap baby shifts and it's off to bed for me.

Signing off 4:32am.
